To get a copy of a police report, contact the records division. You will need the date of the incident, names of those involved, and any case or report number you have. Filing a FOIL Request

FOIL gives you the legal right to request government records in New York. For Clarkstown police records, submit your FOIL request to the police department. For other town records, the town clerk serves as the Records Access Officer.

Your request should include your full name, contact information, a description of what you are looking for, and your preferred format. The standard fee is $0.25 per page for copies up to 9x14 inches, as set by Public Officers Law. The department must respond within five business days. They will either provide the records, deny access with a written reason, or give a date when you can expect an answer.

If your request is denied, you have 30 days to appeal. The appeal goes to the designated appeals officer. If the appeal is also denied, you can challenge the decision in court under Article 78. New York's Committee on Open Government can also provide guidance on whether records should be disclosed.
